Largo Boys Baseball Stuns Keswick 12-4, Extending Winning Streak

Largo boys’ baseball put a dent into Keswick Christian’s now 12-3 record on Thursday night.

In the 7th inning, Largo pitcher Soria (#20) pitched three strikeouts, ending the game at 12-4 for the Packers. Thursday’s victory marks the Packers’ fifth win in a row, signaling a comeback after a rough fall season.

Largo Head Coach Taylor Layner told The Largo Tribune after the game, “I thought we did a really good job staying consistent at the plate and putting pressure on them all night. We’re starting to play more complete baseball at the right time in the season.”

In the top of the sixth inning, Keswick scored for the first time in a while, with Stratis (#7), D. Williams (#14), and Holland (#10) crossing the plate. Largo switched pitchers twice: first to Morales (#15) and then to Soria (#20), who recorded the last out. In the bottom of the inning, Largo scored three runs, balancing what they had lost earlier.

The Packers scored for the first time in three innings. Martinez-Morales (#13), Morales (#15), and Lindo (#22) scored in the bottom of the fourth, with Andrade (#9) recording an RBI. Largo now leads Keswick Christian 7-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Largo prevented Keswick from scoring, with catcher Noah Valderrama (#11) getting to the ball just in time to stop Keswick from stealing home.

Keswick’s second baseman ended the inning by tagging out a runner stealing second, preventing Largo from scoring. Javan Gipson (#4) leads off the top of the fourth for Keswick.

Keswick couldn’t get anyone on base, with Largo centerfielder Martinez-Morales (#13) catching two fly balls. Keswick’s Landon Wilson (#22) continues to pitch, with Largo’s Rafael Andrade (#9) up first in the bottom of the third inning.

Keswick pitcher #22 Landon Wilson held onto the inning, not letting Largo score in the bottom of the second. The score heading into the third is 4-1 for Largo, with Keswick’s #6 Josiah Loeffler up first.

Largo got off the field quickly, preventing Keswick from scoring and only allowing two runners on base. Now, in the bottom of the inning, Largo’s #16, Johnathan Thomson, is batting first.

Largo scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first, making it 4-1 for the Packers. On base, they were eager to take what they could get, stealing bases when possible.

Keswick Christian scored one in the first inning, with Largo up to bat. Up first is #13 Senior Victor Martinez-Morales. Largo trails 0-1 going into the bottom of the first inning.

It’s senior night for Largo Baseball, and No. 2 freshman Jacob Hampton starts off pitching for Largo at the top of the first inning.

Largo head coach Taylor Layner says tonight’s matchup against Keswick will be “tough.” Keswick carries a 12-2 record into the game, while Largo sits at 9-6.

“We’ve been playing good baseball lately—on a four-game win streak and having won six of our last seven,” Layner told The Largo Tribune before tonight’s game.

The Largo program faced a major talent drain this season after 11 seniors graduated last year. Still, Layner says the team has “exceeded expectations so far.”

Keswick did not immediately respond to The Tribune’s request for comment.
