Largo Girls Lacrosse Defeats Northeast 16-4 in Blowout

The Packers set a strong 5-1 lead after the first quarter, but their momentum didn’t stop there.

After a historic overtime win against Sunlake last Friday, Largo headed into tonight’s game hoping to maintain their streak. And it worked. Largo defeated Northeast 16-4 Thursday night with a sturdy defense and fierce offense.

We’re at the fourth quarter now, and the Packers lead comfortably at 14-3. Northeast seeks to push past Largo’s sturdy defense.

Addison Wheaton’s also on fire tonight after scoring Largo’s 12th goal in the third quarter and multiple goals tonight.

We’re nearing halftime, and Annabelle King just bolted across the field and launched her second goal tonight, setting the Packers at a 10-3 lead.

After nearly two one-sided quarters, Northeast Senior Keira Albritton scored the Vikings’ second goal as the matchup heads into halftime.

Largo Senior Abbie Lindfors scored in the 7th minute of the second quarter after a standoff with Northeast’s defense.

We’re about midway into the second quarter, and Largo sophomore Rachel Henn nabbed the Packer’s sixth goal, strengthening their lead to 6-1.

After a one-sided first quarter, Northeast Senior Jocelyn Bruner scored the Viking’s first goal. Northeast now looks to further mount its comeback.

Kylie Kepler is on a roll tonight, scoring her second goal in the sixth minute of the first quarter.

Largo Senior Ella Kovacs scored the team’s third goal, setting up a strong lead for the Packers in the first quarter.

After a swift interception, Largo Senior Addison Wheaton nabbed the second goal for the Packers. The score is now 2-0 with the Packers in the lead.

Largo Senior Kylie Kepler scored the Packer’s first goal early in the first quarter.

For Largo’s head lacrosse coach Steven Arfaras, this year’s lacrosse season is a full circle moment; many of the players have been with the relatively new program since its first game.

“They have an innate gift to do things with class – they play with intensity without being overly aggressive,” Arfaras told the Largo Tribune before tonight’s game.

Largo’s win against Sunlake was the first overtime game in Largo’s history. Coach Arfaras credits the victory to the team’s trust and confidence in each other.

“They believe in their teammates to support one another, and were thus rewarded,” he added.

Coach Cady of Northeast did not immediately respond to the Largo Tribune.

Tonight’s lacrosse game comes after Monday’s victory against Boca Ciega and last Friday’s win over Sunlake High School, which ended in the first overtime in school history.

Northeast heads into tonight’s matchup after a 4–14 loss to Palm Harbor on Tuesday and a 1–0 triumph against Boca Ciega last Thursday.
